International Educator Offers Essay Writing Party

August 2, 2015 / CLINTON, MD – Kimberly K. Parker International and English Teachers Rock will host an essay writing house party/workshop for 6th through 12th grade students on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the ZD Youth Empowerment Center in Temple Hills, MD.

In a Washington Post Op-Ed, Nancy Wexler, Blogger for Greater Greater Education, wrote, “Many students have no idea how to write a paragraph that hangs together, let alone a coherent five-paragraph essay. They don’t understand how to draw a connection between a claim and a piece of evidence, a basic necessity in constructing a logical argument.”

This fun-filled workshop is designed to give students a jump start on effectively writing essays for the school year. They will learn tons of information on the foundation of writing a great essay, successful writing tips and insight on the importance of writing essays, what colleges expect to find in your personal statement, mapping out the necessary details in your essay, and more. As an added bonus, parents who attend will have a private session with a College Professor and Licensed Social Worker who will share strategies on how to best support their children during the writing process. Materials, snacks, games, and prizes will be provided.

Kimberly K. Parker International agrees with Nancy Wexler’s statement: “Teaching [children] to write has the power to unlock their intelligence in a way that teaching them to answer multiple-choice questions can never accomplish. And if we keep telling them they can go to college, we owe it to them to provide them with the skills they’ll need to survive once they get there.”  For more information on how to join the fun, click this link.
